Virginia Technical Institute provides fast and affordable hands-on training in a variety of fields including electrical, plumbing, welding, carpentry, masonry, and project management.
The first classes students take are CORE and the Level 1 trade.
CORE class covers the basics of safety, construction math, hand tools, power tools, blueprints, communication skills, job market skills, and materials handling.

5The Apprentice School
The Apprentice School is training men and women for careers in shipbuilding.
Students can become craftsmen during a minimum 7,000 hours of on-the-job training in one of 19 shipbuilding disciplines.
An apprentice is placed in one of three shipbuilding disciplines selected during the application process and works in that trade for the duration of the apprenticeship.
Apprentices complete 1,000 hours of course work in the Trade-Related Education Curriculum and World Class Shipbuilder Curriculum.
The average apprenticeship is completed in four to five years; all apprentices graduate with a certificate of apprenticeship.
Apprentices who excel in the World Class Shipbuilder Curriculum and Trades Related Education Courses and their shipbuilding discipline may be considered for an advanced discipline.
During the advanced discipline training students complete on-the-job training and academic coursework toward an associate degree offered in partnership with local community colleges.
